Tesla with a fresh update has overshadowed the pre-historic combustion engine driven world of cars. The future might truly be here.
Tesla and Elon Musk have been a pioneering force to reckon with over the last decade with a range of radical electric cars. The current flagship for the brand, the Model S has been a brilliant sedan that proves that electric cars could one day truly replace petrol powered machines.
The latest derivation of the Model S, the P100D features an all-new 100 kWh battery pack, which makes it the third fastest accelerating production car (in the ludicrous mode) after the LaFerrari and the Porsche 918. It can achieve the standstill sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in just 2.5 seconds. These are spectacular figures for a 4-door 5 seater sedan that is quiet and comfortable (and 100% electric).
What’s more, considering that the 918 and LaFerrari are both limited-run million dollar cars, the Tesla could practically even be considered as the fastest accelerating road car in the world, since it is the only one available in the market currently with these staggering figures. Elon Musk has achieved a remarkable milestone in the history of the electric car.
The new larger battery pack should also aid in increased range for the car. The new Model S P100D has a range of over 600 km, making it the longest-range production electric car in the world. And with the ever-growing supercharging outlets, quick charge-ups are a reality. All this convenience and emissions-free motoring with a 0-100 figure as good as a litre-class superbike. We are dumbfounded. It won’t be a matter of time before Tesla finds their way to Indian shores to electrify the markets here as well.
