The all-new India bound Jeep Compass makes a world debut

    By Augustine Morris | News | 0 comment | 30 September, 2016 | 0

The India bound Jeep Compass has finally been unveiled in Brazil and we expect it to arrive the Indian shores later next year, in its localized avatar.

The much famous American off-roading specialist, Jeep recently made a grand entry into our Indian market. Although this was some brilliant news for the Indian off-road enthusiasts, there was a small catch – You have to be significantly wealthy to even consider buying one!
Thankfully, Jeep has the biggest magic trick up their sleeve yet. And yes, we’re talking about the all-new Jeep Compass. The Compass is an aggressive and compact SUV that will soon be locally manufactured at the new Fiat-Chrysler Ranjangaon plant.

The new Jeep Compass will hopefully be aggressively priced in the Indian market. Sadly, apart from the external styling elements, details are minimal on the new Compass. Jeep is debuting the car at the Los Angeles Motor Show in November and we expect further details at that time.

The India bound Jeep Compass would most likely be powered by a 2.0-litre Multi-Jet diesel motor mated to a 4×4 drivetrain. Jeep also claims that they would make 17 different fuel efficient powertrains for 100 different countries, with the option of 4×2 and 4×4 drivetrains in their bid to capture the global market.

In terms of design, the new Jeep Compass is very similar to its older sibling the Grand Cherokee. The Compass features a highly contoured bonnet and squared out wheel arches that add to the aggressive Cherokee personality it inherits. The Compass may be a compact SUV, but the tall ride height and the beefy stance should give it a significant road presence.

We expect the Jeep Compass to make its Indian debut in the second half of 2017. Thanks to its local manufactured avatar, the Compass should have an interesting price tag, hovering somewhere around the twenty-five lakh mark. In India, the Compass would face stiff competition from the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Hyundai Santa Fe and the upcoming Skoda Kodiaq. What are your thoughts on the more affordable Jeep?
