The fourth model from the S-Class family to make it to Indian shores, Mercedes-Benz India has officially launched the staggeringly powerful S63 AMG four-door sedan with a price tag of Rs. 2.53 Crores (ex-showroom, Bangalore). Summing up the answer to performance and luxury in a compelling package, the S63 AMG sedan blends in with the masses without much trouble but is quick to whip up a storm when required with the furious V8 twin-turbocharged engine under the hood.
Lurking under the hood of the 2015 Mercedes S63 AMG is a 5.5-litre Bi-Turbo V8 petrol engine tuned to produce 585 PS and an earth shattering 900 Nm of torque and comes paired to a 7-speed SpeedSihift MCT transmission. Available only in the rear-wheel drive version in India, the S63 AMG does the 0-100 kmph run in 4.4 seconds and has an electronically-limited top speed of 250 kmph. Pull in a few calls at Affalterbach and they will be happy to get you driver’s pack to pull that speed limiter off.
In terms of cosmetics, the Mercedes S63 AMG gets aggressive looking sportier bumpers, blackened roof, AMG alloy wheels, AMG quad exhausts with inbuilt diffuser and side skirts for that complete sporty stance. Despite the additions, the S63 AMG looks every bit classy and manages to look sultrier than ever. The sedan is 100 kg lighter than its predecessor thanks to the use of aluminium in its construction.
Without compromising on comfort or tech goodies, the Mercedes S63 AMG gets an all-black cabin with AMG Sports steering wheel, sports seats wrapped in Nappa leather, carbon fibre inserts, climate control front seats, massaging seats and a memory package for multiple seat adjustments. Standard equipment includes AMG door sill panels, AMG floor mats, AMG sports pedals made from brushed stainless steel with rubber studs, ambience lighting, metallic paintwork, Comand Online and 10 loudspeakers with Front bass.
If prefer being chauffeured around on the weekdays, the Mercedes S63 AMG can be had with the ‘chauffeur package’ that improves the rear seat legroom by moving the front seat by a good 77 mm. There is also the AirMatic suspension setup which will increase or lower the ground clearance as per the road conditions. Needed in India? Hell yes! In terms of safety tech, Mercedes lapped its performance sedan with 8 airbags, Attention Assist, Night View Assist Plus, Collision Prevention Assist among a bunch of other very fancy tech.
For the fortunate few who can afford to make this beauty a part of their garage, the S63 AMG can be chosen from a range performance four-doors comprising of the Bentley Continental Flying Spur, Maserati Quattroporte and BMW 760 Li.
