When your bank balance represents a small country’s GDP and your closest ally is the bodyguard outside the door, it is time that you invest better in personal safety. With Mercedes’ newest offering in India, the rich, famous and also the infamous with moolah rolling down the floor will can now travel in safety as the German automaker has launched the S600 Guard at a price of Rs. 8.9 crores (ex-showroom, Delhi). Based on the flagship W222 S600 saloon, the S600 Guard is the best you can buy in the world luxury safety.

Mercedes-Benz their first reinforced passenger car in 1928 and eight decades later, the S600 Guard is the latest step in that journey. The safest Mercedes comes with a VR9 levels of ballistic protection and is fit with components including polyethylene, aramide and special reinforced steel compound that are mounted onto the S600 Guard at the time of assembly. The luxury saloon gets underbody armour plating that will keep the occupants safe from any unprecedented grenade or IED attack. The window glass is multiple times thicker on the S600 Guard compared to the standard version and is polycarbonate coated to withstand firing from machine guns or the likes. In actuality, you need a hydraulic lift to open and close the windows due to the excessive weight.

In addition to the overwhelming levels of protection, the 2015 Mercedes S600 Guard comes with several additional safety centric features including the opaque roller blinds, automatic fire suppression system, emergency fresh air system and panic alarm system. The luxury saloon rides on Michelin PAX run-flat tyres that will keep going for an additional 30 km even after taking maximum damage. Enough to get you out of harms way, in case of an attack.

With highest level of security features fitted up to the neck, the S600 Guard does not buoy down when it comes to luxury. The saloon is available in four-seater and five-seater configurations depending on the level of exclusivity you prefer and gets ventilated rear seats to keep you airy and comfortable. You can also opt for a cooling compartment between the rear seats to store the delectable wine from that extremely remote vineyard in France. The AIRMATIC suspension also ensures that you do not compromise on the ride quality at any given time despite the additional fitments on to the saloon.

While the Mercedes S600 Guard might be the safest luxury saloon in the world, it isn’t a snob showing it off as such. The German auto giant states that the S600 Guard is virtually indistinguishable from the regular S-Class without missing out on any of the luxury features either. So, if you had any qualms of being discreet, the S600 Guard will ensure that it does not get you too much attention. Well, not more than the usual at least.

Coming to the mighty powertrain, the S600 Guard gets an engine as heavy as itself with the 6.0-litre V12 motor propelling the rear wheels as it belts out 530 PS of power and 830 Nm of peak torque while paired to a 7-speed automatic transmission. With a weight of 4.5 tonnes, the S600 Guard isn’t light per se but still is capable of hitting a top speed of 193 kmph. It also comes with upgraded stopping abilities with the larger steel disc brakes replacing the aluminium discs from the regular versions while the six-piston calipers are standard on four wheels. If that death threat in a recent mail has been troubling you since a long time now, it is time that you head to the Mercedes dealership and order yourself one of these beauties that are hand built in Germany and will be imported in India.
