A car that has received a lot of attention and gasps of WOW!!! at the Detroit Auto Show is showcased at the Mercedes stand. We’re talking about the special edition S63 Cabriolet, called the Edition 130. The car has been specially made to mark the 130 years that have passed since Karl Benz made the Patent-Motorwagen in 1886, which put the Benz name firmly on the map. It was a major advancement, as it made history by being the first automobile with a petrol powered internal combustion engine.
The Edition 130 is based on the S63, and packs a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. This is enough to generate 585 hp of output to all four wheels and reach a 100 kmph from standstill in a mere 3.9 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 kilometers per hour, which is a little less than what we would expect. The Edition 130 features high-gloss Alubeam silver paint, matte black 20-inch alloys with polished rims, and a Bordeaux red fabric top. The interior can be customized in red and black leather or in gray and black, with piano lacquer trim. There’s the requisite special Edition 130 badging inside and out, as well as on the red brake calipers and floor mats. Apart from the expressive design of the exterior and interior; being an AMG, the four-seater cabriolet offers the brand’s hallmark driving performance.
The Edition 130 is indeed a very special car and Mercedes certainly has not made it for every mortal with a bank account. A select 130 units of the 130 Edition will be manufactured and sold. Every customer receives a tailor-made AMG Indoor Car Cover with the embroidered lettering “Edition 130 – 1 of 130” to protect this valuable vehicle from dust in the garage. Furthermore, at the handover of the keys, the customer receives the welcome package with an Edition 130 badge key ring and an aluminium box for the handing over of the vehicle’s key. Rest assured, every single one of the 130 owners will feel a sense of pride to own this luxurious vehicle.
Mercedes-AMG honours the achievement of their founding fathers with this highly exclusive cabriolet. It demonstrates the developments the automobile manufacturer has undergone in the last 130 years; “Developments which would have been inconceivable at that time”, according to Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Board of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. The Edition 130 celebrated its world premiere and sales release at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit last week. The non-binding list price in Germany converts to Rs. 1.67 crores (including 19% VAT) and market launch begins in April 2016.
