Land Rover has recently announced that it has started accepting bookings for its latest entrant into the Indian market, the Discovery Sport.
In the world of Sport Utility Vehicles, Land Rover has enjoyed a monopoly like no other. Whether it is the legendary Defender, the luxurious but equally capable Range Rover and its smaller brother Range Rover Sport, the peoples carrier Discovery, the sexy Range Rover Evoque, with its coupe styling and muscular haunches, or even the compact Freelander.
There is a new Land Rover in town now, and it is called the Discovery Sport.
This beautiful machine is a part of the leisure vehicles Land Rover makes under the subbrand Discovery. It’s based on the same platform as the Evoque, which means it is derived from a Ford platform. Available with a range of petrol and diesel fourbangers, 5+2 seating and an optional 9 speed auto, it’s going to be launched in India on the 2nd of September this year.
The Discovery Sport features an unparalleled 4 wheel drive system, and is going to mark a significant milestone in the expansion of Land Rover’s product offering in India, said Rohit Suri, the president of Jaguar Land Rover India Limited.
The Discovery Sport will now be added to the present lineup of Land Rover cars in India that consists of the Evoque, Discovery 4, the Range Rover Sport, and the big daddy Range Rover.
Bookings are accepted in any of the 22 authorised Land Rover outlets in India, and judging by the competition offered by its European neighbours, in the form of the Audi Q5, the Mercedes Benz ML, the BMW X3 and the Volvo XC60, the Discovery Sport will have to be priced very competitively to succeed.
