Giving you all the reason to discover a new land, terrain and yourself, Land Rover has officially launched the 2015 Discovery Sport in India after a long wait with prices starting at Rs. 46.10 lakhs (pre-octroi ex-showroom, Mumbai). The Discovery Sport marks the beginning of the automaker’s new product plan and is extremely sophisticated over the Freelander 2, the model it replaces in the global lineup. With Land Rover bringing it is a Completely Knocked Down (CKD) import, prices are competitive on the new Discovery that rivals the likes of BMW X3, Mercedes M-Class, Volvo XC60 and Audi Q5 in the segment.
The Land Rover Discovery Sport looks close to the Discovery Vision concept showcased early last year with the design language trickling down from the bigger models. There is a bit of the Evoque touch as well in the design with the modern lines, pronounced wheel arches and striking Discovery badging on the front hood making the model stand out in the segment. At 4590 mm in length, the Discovery Sport translates into healthy road presence while a wheelbase of 2741 mm opens up a lot of space inside the cabin. The LED DRLs on the SUV make the front fascia stand out distinctively.
Inside the cabin, the 2015 Discovery Sport gets a pleasing persona and is heavily kitted up on the features list with a multi-function steering wheel, cruise control, ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, tyre pressure monitoring system offered as standard. Then there is an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with integrated voice-controlled satellite navigation, dual-zone climate control, reclining second-row seats for increased legroom as well as Park Assist on offer. Acoustic needs are fulfilled by the 825 watt 16-speaker Meridian audio system on the Discovery Sport. Being a 7-seater luxury SUV on the top-end trims, the new model continues to be as practical as ever.
With all those upgrades, do not think the 2015 Discovery Sport isn’t meant for the wild. The Land Rover DNA is strong on the new model too as the SUV comes with an approach angle of 25 degrees, breakover angle of 21 degrees and departure angle of 31 degrees. The Discovery Sport can scale gradients up to 45 degrees with ease and comes with the Terrain Response System, which optimizes the SUV’s performance on different terrains while the ground clearance of 212 mm ensures you do not scrape the underbelly even on the most harsh conditions.
Under the hood, the 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport draws power from a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder SD4 diesel engine that is available in two states of tune. Power on the base SE variant is restricted to 150 PS and 380 Nm of torque, while the top-end HSE trim gets power uprated to 180 PS and 420 Nm of torque. Both engines come paired to the 9-speed ZF automatic transmission offered as standard that sends power to all four wheels via the Haldex All-Wheel Drive system. With bookings open since last month, Land Rover did state that it has already received over 300 bookings for the new Discovery Sport in the country, as on the Launch date of the car.
For the rest who plan to put their money to good use, the 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport makes for a compelling purchase with its modern yet rugged styling, legendary British DNA and capable off-roading capabilities without any compromise on luxury.
