The Koenigsegg Regera kills every other Hybrid on this planet

    By Augustine Morris | News | 0 comment | 4 March, 2016 | 1

The Koenigsegg Regera is Sweden’s attempt to create the perfect luxury Megacar! A car designed to be astonishingly fast and luxurious.

The Koenigsegg moniker is a unique one. It began with a bunch of handy Swedish chaps led by a man named Christian von Koenigsegg, who decided that they should start building Hyper cars that would land a punch in an Italian and German dominated world! The results have been simply magnificent with the likes of the CCX, the Agera and the One: 1, all setting unreal standards of uncompromising performance and style. Now in 2015, Mr. Christian had decided to build a car that can do it all. A car that would redefine how we look at high performance motoring. This machine was called the Koenigsegg Regera, a concept that shook the world. Fast forwarding to the present Geneva 2016 Motor show, Koenigsegg has succesfully built a production model of the Regera, and boy is it special!

Now the Regera is a really distinct animal. It makes use of a conventional engine along with three electric motors, two of which are at the rear wheels and one directly connected to the drivetrain; but mind you this car is technically not a hybrid. The Regera does not have a gearbox. Instead, it makes use of Koenigsegg’s patent pending Direct Drive system. This system promises to eliminate the weight, complexity and mechanical losses of a traditional gearbox. The Direct Drive system makes use of hydraulic coupling, that merges the gasoline engine drivetrain directly to the E-torque vectoring system to deliver power to the rear wheels.

At its heart is the beastly gasoline engine, a 5.0-litre twin-turbocharged Koenigsegg V8 that displaces an extraordinary 1,100 HP and 1250 Nm of torque. The electric system on the Regera produces an additional 700 HP and 900 Nm of torque, making it the most powerful electric drivetrain setup on any hybrid styled Supercar. This results in a combined output of – Hold on to your seats everyone; 1500+ Hp and over 2000 Nm of torque! The Regera is thus capable of doing 0-200 kmph in 6.6 secs, 0-300 kmph in a mind boggling 10.9 secs and a 0-400 kmph run in a cataclysmic 20 secs! Koenigsegg claims a top speed of 410 kmph, which sits slightly under the Bugatti Chiron’s mark. But according to the Swedish brand, acceleration and smoothness of power delivery were their top priorities.

The Regera aims to be a car that can be tamed if necessary. This is achieved with the help of a rear sub-frame that features active engine and transmission soft mounts to isolate engine noise and vibrations. At slower speeds, these mounts stay soft to maintain a comfortable and soothing driving experience and stiffen up for spirited driving. Shock absorbers are also completely adjustable based on driving conditions. Furthermore, the Regera can be driven in complete silence, thanks to the powerful electric drive train. In conjunction with the KDD, the electric motors and gasoline engine provide a new level of refinement in terms of power delivery.

Koenigsegg has focused a lot on making sure that the driver has a brilliant and comfortable experience while driving the Regera. The interior design is bespoke and absolutely stunning. The seats on the Regera are plush and comfortable and come with eight-way electrical adjustment along with foam cushioning. The doors and front & rear hoods can be remotely opened and closed with the help of light weight hydraulic systems. The centre console features a 9-inch Koenigsegg infotainment screen that features Apple CarPlay as standard. The Regera also features front and rear parking sensors, along with remote diagnostic capabilities.

The Regera is a technological masterpiece, but it is also an artistic sensation! The curves on the Regera are sumptuous and eye-wateringly gorgeous. The roof features the signature Koenigsegg bubble design that culminates in a very low slopping rear end, making it surprisingly elegant for a car in this category. The front and rear bumpers feature naked carbon-fibre extensions that add a touch of rage and aggression. The Regera also features the world’s first top mounted fully foldable rear wing. The exhaust on the Regera has been custom designed by Koenigsegg, along with the help of Akrapovic, giving the car a unique soundtrack thanks to the fishtail exhaust tips.

To sum up, we would say that the Regera is a beautiful car that truly redefines the face of extreme performance machines. The ability to provide this kind of luxury and refinement in a car that can perform so radically is something that we have never seen before. The Swedes have once again stolen the spotlight! Koenigsegg will build only 80 Regera’s and half of them have already been sold. The Regera will set you back by around 2 million US dollars, but a car this special, luxurious, technologically advanced and breathtakingly gorgeous somehow justifies that price tag!
