    Koenigsegg Regera Hybrid Unveiled

    By Rahil Shah | News | 0 comment | 4 March, 2015 | 0

Move over LaFerrari, Porsche 918 and McLaren P1, the mighty Swedes are back and have brought along the fear striking Koenigsegg Regera Hybrid supercar that will be now be officially defining the term insanity. The latest hypercar with a hybrid powertrain, unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show – the Regera which translates “to reign” in Swedish, is the new flagship offering from its creator, Christian von Koenigsegg and offers hyper speeds with a luxurious cabin.

While the drill remains the same, to offer a hypercar with insane amounts of power and track like handling ability on the road, the Koenigsegg Regera is a hybrid which makes it a tad bit different from the Agera hypercar that has come out in the past. Based on the heavily modified Agera chassis, the Regera gets a 9KW battery pack accommodated right in the centre of the car. Power comes from the 5.0-litre Bi-Turbo v8 engine that individually produces a mind boggling 1100 HP of power and over 2000 Nm of torque and is paired to three electric motors that produce an additional 700 HP of power.

The smallest of the three motors, which makes 214 HP of power on the Regera is connected to the crank that doubles up as a starter motor that fills the torque curve at lower RPMs before the turbo kicks in. The other two motors individually produce around 240 HP and power the rear wheels directly. Interestingly, the Regera does not come with any transmission and all the power is directly sent to the rear wheels. Instead of a transmission, the Regera gets what is called a Koenigsegg Direct Drive System that reduces power loss by 50 percent.

Being a rear wheel drive only model, Koenigsegg says that the Regera is capable of doing the 0-100 kmph sprint in 2.7 seconds and can’t do it any faster because of traction. If you thought that is fast, the Regera is capable of touching the top speed of 410 kmph mark in 20 seconds. Just to give you perspective on how quick that is, the LaFerrari takes 15 seconds to hit the 300 kmph mark while the Porsche 918 will do the same distance in 23 seconds. With a loaded weight of 1628 kgs, the Regera is extremely light for the power it holds.

The aesthetics on the Regera are Swedish and reminiscent of the brand philosophy. The design is extremely aerodynamic and gets humungous air-intakes, diffuser management, active chassis shock absorber stiffness at the front and back, active aero flaps for stability at the soul-crushing speeds. On the inside, the Koenigsegg has ensured that everything remains well appointed with best quality materials, 6-way adjustable carbon memory seats, and a 9.1-inch infotainment system, which in fact is the all new Apple Car Play on offer. You also get the individual soft-close doors option on the Regera that was introduced on the One:1.

A task as easy as opening the door, has been made so much more dramatic and enjoyable with the Regera. Everything in the car can be controlled remotely, and when you open these doors to Paradise, the side mirrors first fold 90 degrees to the inside and only then are you granted access by the Swedish House Mafia!
If you have the moolah and share the same madness as the Swedes do, make sure to get your hands on one of these, but hurry up since only 80 examples will be made.
