Jeep has finally unveiled the first 3 models that they will be launching in India. The brand, which is under the FCA umbrella, has showcased the Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Grand Cherokee SRT at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. Stay tuned to read everything about the Jeep Wrangler in our next post. In this article, let’s take a closer look at the two models of the Grand Cherokee, which are expected to stir up the Indian SUV market with some “masala”.
Grand Cherokee
The Grand Cherokee will initially be imported into the country via the CBU route. But Jeep’s long term plan for the Grand Cherokee, in fact all the Jeep SUVs, is to locally assemble them in India itself at Fiat’s Ranjangaon facility.
As the name suggests, the Grand Cherokee is enormous and has a mean look to it. Its aggressive stance is enough to scare the competitors, and the strong line and massive hunches will surely attract customers.
Inside, the car is quite spacious, and has an upmarket feel to it. It has ample legroom and headroom for both front and rear passengers. As expected, the luggage carrying capacity is huge. The vehicle’s high-tech dashboard looks gorgeous. The centre screen is an LCD flat panel where the speedometer can be displayed in either digital or analogue mode. The cabin features a large audio visual touch-screen, and the instrument console is placed right behind the steering wheel.
Talking about the numbers, the Grand Cherokee packs a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine. This engine produces 237 Horses and a mammoth 569 Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission gearbox. The Grand Cherokee features paddle shifts that are positioned behind the steering wheel. You can choose between three driving modes – Automatic, Manual and a Sport mode.
This Jeep will be looking to give a knockout punch to Land Rover Discovery Sport, BMW X3 and Audi Q5.
Grand Cherokee SRT
Impressed by the Grand Cherokee? Then be prepared to get blown away by the SRT version of it. Under the hood, the Grand Cherokee SRT comes with an incredible 6.4-litre HEMI engine that churns out an astonishing 475 HP and 644 Nm of peak torque. This engine enables the SUV to rack up 0-100 kmph in just under 5 seconds, and is mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
Inside, the usage of exquisite leather on the seats and dashboard console is a delight for the eyes. An 8.4-inch touch-screen infotainment system is provided to wrap you in technological luxury. This infotainment system can also display the performance stats of your SUV. A 19-speaker sound system makes sure your ride is an enjoyable one.
The Grand Cherokee SRT is a glorious overkill for people who want performance, but in XL size. Porsche Cayenne Turbo and the BMW X5 M are there to compete, but the monstrous Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT has everything it takes to emerge as the potential winner.
