The Scorpion is here! And indeed it is in all its glory. Fiat’s performance division better known to the world as ‘Abarth’ has officially made its entry in the country with the Abarth 595 Competizione launched with a price tag of Rs. 29.85 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The 595 Competizione is a rival to the MINI Cooper S in the segment, hosting the same kind of retro cool styling and performance levels under the hood.
Much like its Brit rival, Fiat is bringing the Abarth 595 as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) in the country. The Abarth 595 Competizione is the souped-up version of the standard 500 and comes with the distinctive Italian styling. Puny in dimensions, the hatchback measures 3657 mm in length, 1627 mm in width, 1485 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2300 mm. However, don’t let the proportions deceive you, the 595 Competizione gets sporty bumpers at the front and rear, xenon headlights, side skirts, Abarth lateral decals, quad exhausts, roof spoiler and 17-inch low profile Abarth alloy wheels. In terms of performance output, the Abarth 595 Competizione gets a turbocharged 1.4-litre four-cylinder T-Jet petrol engine under the hood that gushes out 160 HP at 5500 RPM and 230 Nm of torque between 2750-3000 RPM. The motor comes paired to a 5-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) unit and gets steering mounted paddle shifters, supporting two driving modes – Drive and Sport. With a kerb weight of 1045 kgs, the Abarth 595 Competizione promises an impeccable power-to-weight ratio, but gets a host of electronic aids including Torque Transfer Control and Frequently Selective Damping (FSD) technology on the front and rear suspensions.
All that power can be retained on the second pedal with the four-piston aluminium fixed brake callipers and ventilated disc brakes on all wheels along with ABS. With braking performance in check, the Abarth 595 Competizione does the 0-100 km/hr run in 7.6 seconds and is capable of achieving a top speed of 210 km/hr. Blistering fast by all standards.
