The shining prancing horse from Maranello, Ferrari is back in India with a bang and have introduced their smallest offering the California T in the country with a price tag of Rs. 3.45 crores (ex-showroom, Mumbai). The smallest Ferrari that money can by, this drop-top two-door coupe personifies everything good about the Italians with its smoldering looks, a V8 motor and that F1 wizardry underneath. With its first offering launched, Ferrari has commenced operations in the country via two dealerships located in Mumbai and Delhi that will be addressing the needs of customers new and old.

Taking its name from the sunny state of California, the Ferrari California T brings several new and old elements together like the shape of its flanks are inspired from the 250 Testa Rossa’s famous pontoon-fender styling, with the front wing line stretched back. The strong and muscular shoulder line recedes from the front going all the way to the rear where you find the circular tail lights at the either end. If you ever doubt the capabilities of this stallion, make sure to look at the rear where the massive diffuser and quad exhausts are located.

With the retractable hard top down in 14 seconds, the luxurious cabin of the Ferrari California T is up for display finished in the finest of leather covered bucket seats and an awesome F1 flat-bottom steering wheel with the start button, multiple sport modes, indicator stalks among other bits. The infotainment display unit is embedded in the centre console and comes with USB connectivity. The experimental Ferrari also happens to quite practical with a useable boot even with the hard top down.

The first roadgoing Ferrari ever to have a V8 engine at the front, the California T uses a 3.9-litre BiTurbo V8 high revving turbocharged engine (Ferrari’s first forced induction since the F40) that produces a healthy 552 HP of power at 7500 RPM and a torque output of 755 Nm at 4750 RPM. Power is sent to the rear wheels on this drop top via the smooth shifting 7-speed F1 dual-clutch automatic transmission. The California keeps that ride stable with a double wishbone suspension at the front and a multilink unit at the rear, with braking performance coming from the very awesome carbon ceramic brakes that gives you the needed control at any time.

The Ferrari California T comes with a weight distribution of 47% on the front axle and 53% on the rear, giving it the right balance that reflects in the steering response. So imagine cutting into the sharpest corners, but with subtlety. Of course, there is the F1 TRAC system that improves traction and stability on the drop top. With all that performance at your behest, 0-100 kmph can be achieved in 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 315 kmph. That sounds fun, right? So if your credit card limit is anything above Rs. 5 crores and have a penchant for things Italian, then its time head to either of the Ferrari showrooms in the country.
