Why the Ducati XDiavel is the “Best of both Worlds”

    By Augustine Morris | Featured | 0 comment | 16 March, 2016 | 1

The gentleman and the bastard – the XDiavel, is Ducati’s modern interpretation of a crossover between a long distance cruiser and the ultimate performance motorcycle!

Ducati has always been known for their exotic and radical designs; but the 2016 XDiavel is taking things to a whole new dimension! The XDiavel at its heart is pure Evil and Lust. It is low, long and supremely muscular in its stance. The frame is modern and compact, but is unmistakably a Ducati Trellis frame and retains that familiar Monster DNA. The silver plating on the engine cover, the minimalistic sculpted tank, the demonic twin tail lamps, stubby side exhausts and the flat LED illuminated headlamps gives the XDiavel an aura that is bespoke and almost satanic in nature.

The XDiavel represents what Ducati claims, the merging of two worlds – that of a low speed relaxed Cruiser and that of a true Ducati; the ultimate embodiment of Italian style, ultimate technical sophistication and ultra-high performance! The X is emphasis of Ducati going beyond its known boundaries!

At the heart of the XDiavel is Ducati’s brand new Euro 4 approved Testastretta DVT 1262 L-twin motor. The Testastretta churns out a diabolical 156 HP and 130 NM of torque. What makes this motor special though, is the fact that most of its torque is available at as early as 2100rpm and it maintains an almost ideal torque curve making the XDiavel a very tractable motorcycle indeed! Thanks to the new Desmodromic Variable Valve timing system and an increased engine capacity compared to the older Testastretta. The XDiavel is also the first Ducati to use a final belt drive, rather than a conventional chain. Following the principles of the cruiser world, the belt promises fluid response to opening throttle and lower noise levels along with reduced maintenance. The new exhaust is a two in one unit that provides a magnificent soundtrack to this Devilish motorcycle, adding sheer theatre to its already dominating personality.

On the electronics front, the XDiavel packs the Ducati Traction control, which works real-time, intervening in milliseconds to control rear wheel spin, contributing to increased performance and safety for both track and road use. It makes use of Bosch’s Inertial Measurement Unit technology, which dynamically measures the angles of roll, yaw and pitch to manipulate the riding modes. The IMU enables the Riding Modes (Sport, Touring and Urban) to provide three distinct spirits to the bike. The XDiavel runs on a conventional front tyre sized at 120/70 ZR17 while the rear tyre is a mammoth 240/45 ZR17. The larger rear tyre uses a double compound tyre, that increases its grip during extreme cornering, while maximising contact area with any lean angle.

The Ducati XDiavel is a motorcycle that has created its own niche category. It thrives on decadence and lusts for every drop of fuel. Batman keeps one in his cave for that Sunday night ride!
The XDiavel competes with the likes of the V-Max and probably the Harley Davidson Night Rod in the Indian market. We expect the XDiavel to be launched in India by the first half of 2017, or by the end of 2016, if we’re too lucky. This striking motorcycle will come in the standard trim and the XDiavel S trim, that keeps all the bells and whistles. We really can’t wait to get our hands on this beast!
