Breaking conventions in the luxury space, Audi India is on a roll with experimental products and launched the S5 Sportback in the country at Rs. 62.95 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The S5 Sportback is the first of its kind offering in its segment and is based on the A6 platform. Imported as a CBU, the model can be regarded as an extremely attractive proposition bringing together sportiness and practicality with an unconventional exterior. With the S badging there is a healthy dose of performance as well to make those highway runs extremely interesting without grabbing too much attention.
Power on the Audi S5 Sportback comes from a 3.0-litre TFSI supercharged V6 petrol engine tuned for 333 HP of power and 440 Nm of torque and comes paired to the S-Tronic dual-clutch transmission that sends power to all wheels via the Quattro AWD system offered as standard. The Sportback can do the 0-100 kmph run in 5.1 seconds while top speed is electronically limited to 250 kmph. the Ingolstadt-based automaker claims the car is capable of returning a fuel efficiency figure of 12.3 kmpl. We would take that with a pinch of salt if we were in your place.
Making heads turn, the Audi S5 Sportback gets a striking single-frame grille at the front with platinum grey inserts and horizontal chrome struts with a honeycomb grille in the air inlets on the bumper with dual chrome trim and angular fog lights. The sill moldings get a body-coloured finish. The signature LED DRLs continue to offer a distinctive appearance. The side profile albeit the same gets the coupe roofline flowing downward at the rear merging into the tailgate, whereas the front fenders get the V6 badging that gives away the power under the hood.
Inside the cabin, the Audi S5 Sportback gets matt-brushed inlays, a three-spoke, leather-covered, flat-bottomed steering wheel with shift paddles, and Alcantara upholstery. Acoustic needs are fulfilled via the standard Bang & Olufsen Sound System with 14 speakers while all other details can be accessed with a 17.78 cm infotainment screen. The S5 Sportback comes with MMI Navigation Plus with 3D mapping, Audi Drive Select with Comfort, Auto, Dynamic, Efficiency and Individual modes, and Audi Parking System Plus with the rear view camera.
High on safety, the Sportback Audi S5 gets 8 airbags, anti-theft wheel bolts with a rotation ring and code key. The German car maker has been extremely bold with its launches in India and has several firsts to its credit including the A3 Cabriolet, R8 LMX with laser beam lighting and RS6 Avant. The S5 Sportback is another move in the same direction. The S5 Sportback joins siblings A7 and RS7 Sportback models in the country.
