The Audi A4 Allroad Quattro – Just another A4 or something special?

If you want to buy a practical mean-machine and are contemplating between a wagon and a crossover, Audi has got you covered. The German automaker has debuted the A4 Allroad Quattro, Audi’s newest CUV at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. If you believe, that adding extra cargo space, an increased height and a rugged look converts an A4 Avant into a CUV; then the brand’s newest crossover/wagon thingy, the A4 Allroad Quattro is something that can make you happy.

To be brutally honest, Audi hasn’t brought a lot of new things to the table. The A4 Allroad Quattro can be perceived as an attempt to increase the sales of the A4 in the United States, considering Americans don’t buy a wagon.
So what exactly did Audi do? Convert the Avant into a CUV, duh! Raise the suspension by 0.9 inches and add 0.4 inches to the wheels. So a total whopping (not!) increase of 1.3 inches. Ta-da! Americans will totally buy it now! Well, so hopes Audi.

Under the hood lies TFSI and five TDI engines, pumping out a maximum of 600 Nm of torque and an output of 150-272 hp, which is at most 27 hp more than that of the A4 Avant. As the name suggests, the A4 Allroad Quattro provides a new Offroad mode in the Drive Select menu that tweaks the throttle, transmission, and shift settings for inclement terrain, in order to smoothen off-road manoeuvring.

The A4 Allroad Quattro comes with standard equipment – Xenon headlights, Bluetooth connectivity, convenience key, Audi drive select and a peak option of 8.3-inch MMI colour display. Apart from a new heads-up display, an all-digital 12.3-inch Audi Virtual Cockpit option will be available. The Allroad offers 17.8 cubic feet of cargo space and with the seats down, a mammoth 53.3 cubic feet, which is pretty impressive.

With the A4 Allroad, Audi hopes to boost the sales of the A4 in the US. This CUV will be available for sale in the US, Germany and other Euro countries as well from this summer onwards. While not offering a whole lot of new stuff, the A4 Allroad Quattro is indeed a unique blend of ruggedness, proper size and all-weather capability. ‘Muricans, rejoice! Finally an A4 for your needs.’
