Aston Martin and Italian design-house Zagato have a rich history of gorgeous silhouettes and jaw dropping curves. The Vanquish Zagato is the latest derivation of the recipe.
The Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Concept is the most recent child of the Aston Martin Zagato Union. It has made its global debut at the prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, held at Lake Como in Italy from 21st to 22nd May. Now the standard Vanquish was already a beautiful machine to behold, but the Zagato is pure lust. It features the classic and quintessential proportions of an Aston Martin yet portrays a chunk of Italian madness and flair. The Halo like front DRLs, the signature double bubble roof and the Vulcan inspired ‘blade’ LED tail lamps all come together beautifully on this concept. What makes the Vanquish Zagato click is the fact that it brings together two highly established institutions in the field of automotive engineering and design to produce one absolutely breath-taking concept.
The Vanquish Zagato is powered by the same 6.0 litre naturally aspirated V12 motor Aston Martin supplies in the standard Vanquish. Only in the case of the Zagato, the V12 is producing a higher 592 HP along with tweaks to improve the overall driving dynamics of the engine. Both Aston Martin and Zagato have been tight lipped in terms of performance figures but expect the Zagato to be a bit more agile.
The exterior of the Vanquish Zagato has been designed by the Aston Martin Design team led by Marek Reichman and Andrea Zagato along with his dedicated team that operates out of Milan. The car itself has been developed and engineered at Aston Martin’s headquarters in Gaydon, England. The new bodywork on the car is completely shaped from carbon fibre. The design team have worked on reducing split-lines across the body work by incorporating the use of large one-piece panels. The Vanquish Zagato definitely finds inspiration from many existing Aston Martin machines. The wing mirrors have been directly influenced by the One-77 and the sculptured rear end is reminiscent of the DB11’s aerodynamic profile along with the retractable spoiler and rear hatch.
The Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato embodies the values of true automotive art work. It is fabulous from every single angle and is modern yet contemporary in its design language. It is loud and brash but somehow retains the elegance and charm of a true British born Aston Martin. It also represents and important design relationship between Aston Martin and Zagato, that dates back to over fifty years, and for that we are truly thankful.
