The AM-RB 001 is Aston Martin and Red Bull’s crazy hypercar concept

    By Augustine Morris | News | 0 comment | 8 July, 2016 | 0

Code named the AM-RB 001, this new Aston Martin will pack a 1000 bhp per tonne, and technology directly derived from Formula One.

The Aston Martin AM-RB 001 is the love child of the rather unlikely union of Aston Martin and Red Bull Technologies. Designed by the legendary Formula One race car designer – Adrian Newey, the AM-RB 001 is an extraordinary hyper car that should challenge and annihilate the likes of Ferrari, Bugatti, Porsche and McLaren.

Born to rule the track and road, the new AM-RB 001 embraces both form and function. Aesthetically, this Aston Martin is extremely radical and aggressive. The low carbon fibre body sits around a cockpit canopy. The entire car is oozing with Formula One pedigree. Thanks to Newey’s radical design, much of the car’s down force is generated through underfloor aerodynamics allowing for a free flowing and organic outer body design.

It distinctively looks like a single-seater racing car with a roof. The AM-RB 001 perfectly encompasses the relentless pursuit of speed and efficiency strived by Red Bull and the charisma, heritage and beauty of an Aston Martin. To the naked eye, it is the ultimate portrayal of the future of the hyper car.

To meet the outlandish targets set by Aston Martin and Adrian Newey at Red Bull technologies, the AM-RB 001 will be a powered by a compact naturally-aspirated high revving V12 motor. Technical details are rather vague but Newey claims that the new engine will hover around the magically 1000 HP range.

The target weight for the entire construction is under 1000 kg giving the AM-RB 001 a 1:1 power-to-weight ratio. Newey hasn’t yet discarded the idea of using a hybrid setup, but the excess weight of the hybrid drivetrain could be a deterring factor. The transmission on the car is also currently under research considering that traditional double clutch units are just too heavy. The team has started with a clean sheet to find the most innovative and lightweight solution.

To cope with the extreme aerodynamic load at high speeds, yet deliver real world comfort and stability, the new car features custom built active and adjustable suspension that employs technologies and principles honed by Newey and his Red Bull team. The team has also focused on exceptional efficiency and packaging. Their experience in Formula One has enabled Red Bull to build a car that is extremely light and compact and yet provides space and comfort for the driver.

The AM-RB 001 is bespoke from the ground up. It can truly be considered as the epitome of the road going race car. It will be built by David King and his team in Gaydon at a purpose built facility. Aston Martin expects to build around 99 cars along with a couple of track-only versions. The British Marquee expect to commence deliveries in 2018. We expect it to redefine our perception of hypercars.
