Good luck being a manufacturer in this day and age, where Internet rules the world. If you’re trying to keep your upcoming “game-changing” creation under the wraps; there is a really high possibility, that either the pictures or the key specs will be leaked just a few days before your automobile is about to be unveiled. Volvo has pretty much understood this now, after the images of the upcoming V90 being leaked by the Swedish website Teknikens Värld. As much as we feel sorry for the automaker from Sweden, we can’t help but admire the beauty of the V90 – This wagon is nothing short of spectacular.
The V90, along with the S90 sedan (which has already been launched), is one of the two jewels of Volvo, that are set to replicate the magic created by their flagship SUV, the XC90. This design, although completely stunning, hasn’t come off much as a surprise, since the V90 is obviously based on the S90, and thus carries forward a lot of design cues from its sedan sister.
Although the V90 was previously leaked in scale model form, it was supposed to be exclusively revealed at a special event in Stockholm, Sweden. But sadly, there won’t be anything “special” at the event now; and honestly, we’re not that bummed about the leak, and you can’t blame us – Just take one good look at this wagon and you’ll know what we are talking about.
The V90 is simply a piece of art; it is that one car, that even the gods of automobiles (if they exist!) would smile at and admire. It’s design is based on the S90 itself and it features the same tasteful fascia. It looks and feels robust and sturdy, and has a very refined and thoughtful design. The waterfall-style taillights that climb the C-pillar exhibit a finesse, that reaffirms that the V90 is sculpted by a very skillful sculptor, err.. I mean, designer. You get the gist.
Volvo had earlier hinted about the V90 when it showcased a gorgeous shooting brake concept at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show – which had left some tongues drooling. The V90’s styling has been heavily influenced by that original concept. Apart from the already mentioned taillights, other elements borrowed from the concept include the “Thor’s Hammer” daytime running lights, as well as the front girlle.
Although nothing has been revealed (or leaked) regarding the numbers under the hood, it’s fun to speculate, right? Since the V90 is based on the SPA platform shared by the XC90, we can expect a similar powertrain lineup. That means a T6 AWD trim with turbocharged and supercharged 2.0-litre engines mated to an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive is a possibility.
Till the car is officially launched, questions such as the possibility of a Polestar edition and four and front-wheel-drive availability will remain unanswered. Since that is less than a week away, join us in admiration of this beaut till then. Ah, what a delight to watch!
