2017 Porsche 911 Turbo Gets More Power & Goodies To Offer

What’s the one thing a car fanatic desires in a supercar? Economy? Ha! It’s right at the bottom of the list. Looks? Probably, but it’s not the most important criteria. Power? Heck yes. Your heart beating out of your chest, that blood-pumping adrenaline rush of driving your beloved car at breakneck speeds. And power is the one thing that the future owners will be assured with their new 2017 Porsche 911 Turbo.

Porsche decided to upgrade the 911 Carrera for the 2017 model year by adding a pair of turbochargers. But it takes it up a notch with the 2017 Porsche 911 Turbo which is a supercar in every sense of the word. The base Turbo as well as the powerful Turbo S variant produce an output of 540 HP and 580 HP, respectively. This means an additional 20 HP boost for both the variants as compared to their predecessors. The extra output in Turbo S is attributed to the additional engine components such as tweaked intake ports and fuel injectors.

The car comes with a 3.8-litre displacement, which is significantly larger than the base Carrera’s 3.0-litre engine. The only transmission option available though, is Porsche’s PDK dual-clutch unit. So no love for manual fans here. The base Turbo registers 709 Nm of torque, whereas the hopped-up Turbo S packs a whopping 749 Nm. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that such power results in some otherworldly acceleration figures. The Turbo Coupe racks up 60 kmph in 1.8 seconds while the Turbo S does the same in just under 1.74 seconds. The top speeds, respectively, are 319 kmph and 330 kmph. Holy smokes!

Both the Turbo and Turbo S now come with the default Sport Chrono Package, which includes a new 918-inspired steering wheel. It is also equipped with a Sport Response button that pumps up the car for optimal acceleration for 20 seconds (Overboost). Both the base version as well as the Turbo S include parking sensors, a backup camera, adaptive suspension and LED headlights with active swivelling. The Turbo S tops all this up with carbon-fibre interior trim pieces and seats with additional adjustability. Porsche’s new touchscreen infotainment system is a delight, being a highlight of the interior update for 2017. It is equipped with a 7-inch screen that accepts multitouch gestures and also comes with the standard Apple CarPlay smartphone connectivity as well as the Porsche Car Connect app, which allows the car owners to monitor their vehicle’s status remotely.

This fine piece of machinery will make its world debut at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show. The 2017 911 Turbo and Turbo S will be available in both coupe as well as convertible formats. The Turbo starts at Rs 1.07 crores and costs Rs 1.26 crores (excluding taxes) for the Turbo S variant. However, for both variants, it will empty your pocket by an additional Rs. 8.21 lakhs if you have your heart set on the convertible. But make no mistake; the power it comes packed with and the pure rush of driving a supercar is worth every penny you will spend.
