Indian Motorcycles recently gave a glimpse of its entry level bike the ‘Scout Sixty’ model at EICMA that will hit the roads across the globe in 2016. The motive behind making this one is to capture the eye of every cruiser bike enthusiast who wants to own a high end cruiser but falls short on budget. With this entry model, the brand will try to target these customers and also raise the sales volume. The Scout Sixty is the smaller version of the Indian Scout which was earlier launched in 2014 and and shares several parts with the bigger model.
The ongoing Scout cruiser model has a 1130cc V-twin engine and to make the Scouty Sixty more affordable, Indian Motorcycles have used a new 999cc engine that is a smaller version of the Scout’s engine. The cruiser gets its name from the 60 cubic inch engine which translates to 999cc in simple terms denoting of its litre-class motor. Cosmetically, the Scout Sixty carries almost everything detail from its big brother including the same chassis, suspension and brakes.
Speaking about the technicalities, the 2016 Indian Scout Sixty gets demoted to a 5-speed gearbox instead of a 6-speed unit, whereas power figures stand at 78 BHP at 7300 RPM and a maximum torque of 88.8 Nm at 5600 RPM. In comparison, the standard Scout pushes out 100 BHP and 105 Nm from the bigger motor. The cruiser weighs nearly 250 kgs and comes with a ground clearance of 135 mm. Surprisingly, ABS is not offered as even optional.
Indian Motorcycles is a premium brand globally and the company loses a lot of potential buyers because of the hefty premium amount most of its offerings charge. The Scout till now has been the company’s entry-level model and commanded a rather reasonable price tag, but with the Scout Sixty the Indian brand is now more affordable with more customers added to the family. The American manufacturer is also offering over 200 accessories with the Scout Sixty showing better customization options. The best part, Indian will be bringing the new Scout to India and we can’t wait to ride the automaker’s smallest cruiser.
