    The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 – A revamped Bumblebee

Odds are that the next Transformers installation will give you an opportunity to get a glimpse of the Camaro ZL1 in its prime. Wait, I’m not talking about Optimus Prime, but the Bumblebee in its prime! The car was a showstopper at the 2016 New York International Auto Show, and when both the Coupe and the Convertible were launched at the same platform, Chevrolet stole the show. Although both the variants have quite similar performance features, the Coupe may beat the Convertible if you were to sign them up for a race. But let us decide that practically, once Chevrolet sheds some more light on the technical specifications.

The ZL1 has a specially crafted small block LT4 6.2-litre engine, which houses 8 cylinders in a V arrangement (V8), that uses intake and exhaust systems designed for the Camaro. This engine helps the car churn out an impressive 640 BHP and a colossal 868 Nm of torque. All this is kept in control by a standard 6-speed manual transmission. Or, you could go for a paddle shift 10-speed automatic, if you desire. The Coupe has a curb weight of somewhere around 1814 kg, 90 kg less than the old car.

The ever attractive shape of the Camaro comes from more than 100 hours of wind-tunnel testing and on-track testing (Oh how I envy those test-drivers!). The shape is aerodynamically friendly and really helps in directing the air. Heat extractors with a large front splitter, rockers, front fenders and a bigger spoiler – All aid in pumping up the Camaro to exhilarating speeds.

Mark Reuss, the Executive Vice President of Global Product Development says, “The Camaro ZL1 is designed to excel at everything.” A magnetic ride suspension and an electronic limited-slip differential bolster the statement. Brembo brakes with 6 piston monobloc front callipers will help you stop the car; although you’ll never feel like using them once you set your foot on the accelerator!

You can perform your favourite stunts (not that we encourage you to) with the Camaro ZL1 on the streets, in early 2017. We know it feels like a really long wait, but till then, you can try your luck and apply for the job of a test driver at Chevrolet.
