2015 Volvo S60 T6 Price (ex-showroom, Delhi) – Rs. 42,00,000/-
While most Indians know them as the makers of the world’s safest cars, there is just so much more to the Swedish brand Volvo that will entice the car enthusiast over any German offering with similar capacity performance. Slowly and steadily though, the sub continent is understanding the value of this rather understated brand and the Swedes as surely banking on the positive word of mouth. Introducing its fourth launch for 2015 in India after the V40 Cross Country, XC90 and V40 hatchback, Volvo India has launched the 2015 S60 T6 sedan to compete with the Mercedes C-Class, Audi A4 and BMW 3-Series.
The Volvo S60 has been on sale in India for a while now and the facelifted version was introduced last year, albeit with only two diesel engine options. The new S60 T6 variant adds an extremely powerful petrol motor to the entry-level luxury sedan and is targeted for those who want ginormous amounts of power to play around with. So, the major update on the 2015 Volvo S60 comes to the heart that now brags of having 306 HP and a 400 Nm of peak torque from a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder direct-injection petrol motor. This unit is paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission and sends power to the Front Wheels omly. Yup! It might come a bummer to a few, but the S60 T6 is a front wheel drive vehicle, unlike the rear wheel driven competition.
Previously, the Volvo S60 T6 was available with a 3.0-litre straight six motor that sent power to the all wheels; however, the automaker has opted for a simpler setup this time that also makes the sedan lighter. With that kind of power on offer, the 2015 S60 T6 does the 0-100 kmph sprint in just 5.9 seconds (just a whisker away from sports car standards) and has a top speed of 230 kmph. The aesthetics do not get any change and the facelifted sedan continues with the wide and bold grille up front and the quirky tail lamp cluser at the rear. May be not too loud in its appearance, the S60 has always been a looker with a tastefully done up lines and a strong presence that continues to impress us.
Inside the cabin, the Volvo S60 T6 shares the feature list with its diesel variants and comes with a host of electronic goodies to fiddle with including a 7-inch infotainment system with Sensus user interface, digital instrument cluster, electrically adjustable seats with remote memory, automatic climate control, navigation and sunroof. As it is with all Volvo models, the S60 gets superlative quality of materials used inside the cabin with the seats upholstered in leather and the unconventional design of the centre console is quite ergonomical.
The pioneers of safety in the auto world excel with their most affordable sedan as well with the Volvo S60 T6 equipped with a host electronic aids including dual front and side airbags with inflatable curtain; Lane Departure Warning, Whiplash Protection System, Side Impact Protection System, Adaptive Cruise Control and City Safety system that applies brakes if a collision is imminent within city limits. But that’s not it, the basic features are all standard comprising of ABS, Emergency Brake Assist, TPMS, DSTC, Park Assist as well as bending headlights, cornering lights and LED daytime running lights.
With competition coming only from the Germans, Volvo will be happy with the limited numbers it gets for the S60 T6 that will solely satiate the power hungry. For the kind of straightline performance we suspect there is on offer, it will be amazingly fun to drive this beauty on some smooth tarmac.
