It’s very green, it’s got a big wing and the already bonkers V8 biturbo is now even crazier with a total of 570 horses at your foot’s disposal. These are the things we learned about the all-new Mercedes-AMG GT R, and boy did we love it! I have always been a huge fan of the AMG GT S, and watching this teaser only aggravated my feelings for this beast! The performance of the car is obviously going to be better than ever, and… it’s Green! The only car which ever looked hotter in green is the Lamborghini Miura!
The teaser also shows some tiny details from the interior, including a racing bucket seat with yellow stitching and a hot yellow seat-belt. Even the badges at the rear feature new coloring with the AMG and GT badges blacked-out and the special “R” badge showing off a shouty yellow shade.
Now, the big debate raging on the internet is the name – AMG GT R, and people are still wondering – Why? A lot of fanboys suspect it as a move to rival the “Nissan GT R”? But we can’t really come to such a conclusion so soon. In my opinion, this nomenclature completely falls in place, if we take into account the global trend followed by most car-manufacturing companies. When a car has an S badge, it’s fast; if it has an R badge, it’s insanely fast; and if it has an RS badge, well, it is deemed to be your pocket rocket.
There’s one other interesting fact: Mercedes has previously used the GT R nomenclature with the legendary CLK GTR, that was built for Touring Car Championships and Le Mans. It’s quite ironic how the AMG GT R has come around the corner at a time when the teams are in the qualifying stages of Le Mans.
So, that’s pretty much all we know about the AMG GT R for now. We will have to wait for a few more days and witness this green AMG monster on 24th June, when it makes a worldwide debut. So stay tuned for more updates on the AMG GT R and the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
