JLR Motors has finally brought the Jaguar F-Pace to India, introducing it at an elaborate ceremony in Mumbai.
The Jaguar F-Pace is the British marquee’s first SUV and it has already set quite a reputation for itself the world over. Built as a crossover sport-luxury SUV, the F-Pace is a very pretty and elegant machine unlike some of its rivals. We expect it to be received with open arms in our SUV fanatic nation.
The F-Pace borrows design elements from a range of Jags. The F-type inspired tail lamps and the XE inspired front headlamps are the most obvious bits. The signature Jaguar chrome grill sits proud at the front. One of the most difficult things to achieve on a crossover SUV is the balance between muscularity and elegance. Jaguar has successfully pulled this off and how. The F-Pace has a perfectly proportioned silhouette along with muscular additives to create an immaculate car. This could very well be one of the prettiest modern SUVs.
The new Jaguar F-Pace will come with the option of two Ingenium family diesel motors. The standard 2.0-litre straight four engine is good for 177 HP and the more powerful sporty 3.0-litre V6 engine is capable of a whopping 296 HP.
Power is transmitted via an 8-speed auto box and the Jag comes standard with a part time AWD system. What’s interesting though is that most of the time, the F-Pace would only run its rear wheels under normal circumstances, sending only 50 percent of the power to the front when it’s needed. The reason for this is the F-Pace is soft-roader and targets a rather different audience, differentiating itself from the rest of the crowd.
Now, Jaguar claims that the new F-Pace is the ultimate performance SUV, and this and that and other BS. But the fact is that it’s a tall, high-riding SUV and isn’t small or nimble by any margin and Jaguar knows this. So instead of battling the Porsche Macan on the track, the F-Pace offers comfort, practicality and a sexy body to keep the customer happy. And we’re thoroughly pleased they made this decision.
The Interiors are modern and very intelligently designed. Like all Jaguars, the whiff of grandeur and opulence is in the air. It is highly sophisticated and oozes with bespoke design touches. The completely digital dials and infotainment system compliment this futuristic interior.
It’s been 70 years since Jaguar built an SUV and they’ve really pulled all the strings on this new car. With its scintillating looks and luxurious pedigree, the new F-Pace will almost certainly be a hit. The F-Pace sadly being a CBU demands a heavy premium. Prices for the F-Pace models would start at Rs 68.40 lakh for the Pure, Rs. 74.50 lakh for the Prestige, Rs. 1.02crore for the R-sport and Rs. 1.12 crore for the First Edition.
